Every once in a while, in the morning when I wake up, just before I get out of bed, the Lord drops a thought on my heart and in my mind and this thought stays with me as I chew over it again and again. Today, the word was “choose life”.
All of life – every second of every minute of every hour of every day we are presented with choices and we are making choices whether we know it or not. And the choices we make are either for death or life.
As you reach out for that chocolate bar, you are making a decision for death or life, as you open your mouth to say those words, you are making a choice for death or life, as you think those thoughts that swirl around in your head, you are making a choice for death or life, as you ignore that alarm bell in the morning, you are making a choice for death or life, as you reach for that money to make that purchase, you are making a choice for death or life. As you relate you are making a choice for death or life. When you defer that dream you have, or postpone that doctor’s appointment, you are making a choice for life or death. And the choices we make today have consequences and ripple effects, not just for ourselves but for those around us and for posterity.
My prayer for myself and all of us, is that we would choose life. Deuteronomy 30: 19 – 20 says it very beautifully:
“I have set before you Life and Death, Blessing and Curse. Choose Life that you are your offspring may live, loving the Lord your God, obeying His voice and holding fast to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days.”
Choose life today.
Choose life every day.
